Summer Plant Foraging
Posted on August 20th, 2012 by Adam Pelling-Deeves
It was our five year wedding anniversary this summer, and as we enjoy rising to the challenge of the traditional gift materials, this year’s theme was wood. One of our gifts was a day of summer plant foraging with Wilderness Pioneers in Wytham Woods. Fortunately we managed to book it on a sunny day and due to a cancellation were alone with the two instructors.
The day comprised of foraging for food, medicine, building materials and other useful substances such as soap and insect repellants. We were taught history, superstitions and folklore, and shown how to make string from nettles while a stir-fry and teas were made using the foraged plants.
It was an excellent day and if you’re curious about bushcraft, I would highly recommend looking into their courses.
