Case Study: Chloe Giordano, Freehand Embroidery
Posted on February 23rd, 2017 by Adam Pelling-Deeves
Chloe Giordano is an embroidery artist who wanted me to produce a promotional video for her that might also inform those already familiar with her work about her methods and influences.
I was delighted with the opportunity. I knew that if I could capture the beauty of Chloe’s work in my production, it would result in a video that people (including myself) would take great pleasure in watching.
The shoot was a couple of short visits on separate days. The first was to cover the start of a piece and pick up general shots and the second was to cover the last few stitches and shoot the interview. I also took away a few pieces of work to shoot on a small turntable. The video came together very easily and because of the nature of the subject it was left very simple in style and accompanied by the solo piano music, Waltz in E minor by Alexander Griboyedov.
In the nine months since it was uploaded to Vimeo, it has been played almost 14,000 times in close to 150 countries. This upload has been embedded at sites such as Less Talk More Illustration, Lost At E Minor and Visi. It was also rebranded by My Modern Met for their Facebook page where it has clocked up over 100,000 views, and recut by Diply for their Crafty Facebook page where it has reached more than 700,000 people. That’s over 800,000 plays altogether and counting, and Chloe’s Etsy shop is gaining admirers and sales by the day.
